Position Summary 

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant will be comfortable performing various duties related to all parts of the accounting cycle. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow this position into a Controller role.


Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of A/R, A/P.
  • Accounts Payable - Supervision of the AP clerk to ensure the timely and accurate posting of vendor invoices and credit card charges. Preparation and submission of cheque and wire payments.
  • Accounts Receivable – Preparation of invoices and credit notes along with the required supporting documents and distributed to customers in a timely manner. Ensure that all payments received from customers are correctly applied and resolve accounts receivable and billing issues internally and directly with clients. Proactively track and collect outstanding balances.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the costing process, analyzes monthly manufacturing costs variances in production and inventory.
  • Preparation and submission of bi-weekly payroll.
  • Reconcile monthly credit card statements.
  • Monitor banking activities, prepare journal entries and bank reconciliations (Canadian and US) to support account activity.
  • Complete and submit monthly sales tax filing, WSIB and other statutory filing requests within deadlines.
  • Prepare month end reports for closing.
  • Perform other general office duties as needed.
  • Assist in other areas of operation as requested by management.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting or finance.
  • Priority will be given to CPA (CA/CMA/CGA) or those enrolled in the program.
  • Minimum of 5 Years’ experience in an accounting role, with 3-5 Years’ experience in a senior accounting position, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills (Microsoft Word/Excel).
  • Experience with QuickBooks is an asset.
  • Professional presentation and conduct.
  • Must be responsible and self-managed.
  • Must have excellent follow-up and tracking skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
